Ex-Jake ‘Exaggerated’ Pain During Exam

Ex-Jake ‘Exaggerated’ Pain During Exam

Dr. Gaurav Kapur, a spine specialist who examined the ex-firefighter now accused of defrauding the city by claiming disability while competing as a bodybuilder, has remarked that Albert Arroyo was given to “exaggeration,” with displays of “grimacing” that weren’t borne out by the medical evidence.

Arroyo was referred to Dr. Kapur by his lawyer in 2008, the doctor testified yesterday in Arroyo’s federal fraud trial.

From News.bostonherald.com:

Kapur told jurors Arroyo never mentioned he was a professional bodybuilder, nor did he bring up the March 2008 fall down a flight of firehouse stairs on which his pension claim was based. Arroyo could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Meanwhile, jurors were shown a May 2008 competition video of a near-naked Arroyo freestyle flexing to music in just a pair of shiny black bikini briefs as onlookers cat-called their approval. They also were shown a still photo of Arroyo oiled up and glistening, holding two dumbbells.

Another firefighter who trained Arroyo when he was on the job said bodybuilding came naturally to the defendant.

“He could be a champion,” Reynolds Shepherd, guru of the Boston Fire Department’s Firefighters Are Athletes Too (FAT) fitness program, testified.

Enter the world of Body building

Enter the world of Body building

If you think that you have what it takes to be a successful bodybuilder, this piece of information will surely help you in endless ways.

This information is also expected to clear millions of minds that think body building is all meant for individuals with an already developed body.

From Healthandsuppliments.com:

Bodybuilding is not something that is just meant for bodybuilders. Any one who wants to stay fit and lift weights for shaping and toning lean muscle mass can opt for bodybuilding. However, you need to be at least 18 years old as a young body below that age may not be able to handle the strenuous weight training.

But before your start your rendezvous with bodybuilding, exercise at home (under adult supervision, if you have just crossed the age of 18) without putting too much of weights. Take a protein rich diet to ensure a beneficial digestion of utilization of energy. Run for about 20-30 minutes, two times a day. If your busy schedule does not allow you to run two times a day, make it one but at least run for a while. Insist on a natural and healthy diet and say bye to aerated drinks, caffeine, and alcohol.

It is, however, recommended that you consult a qualified gym instructor, health expert, and dietician before hitting the gym.

Government advisers urge ban on steroid online imports

Government advisers urge ban on steroid online imports

Expert drug advisers of the government are pressing for a ban on online imports of anabolic steroids amid growing concern over their use by young boys and men for improving their body image.

The ban is needed as steroids sold online are often contaminated, delivered with wrong dosage instructions, or out of date.

From Guardian.co.uk:

The ACMD’s chair, Professor Leslie Iversen, said steroids were now much too easily available: “If you search online you will see endless offers. The ACMD is the lone voice against this tide of promotion on the internet. We think [an import ban] would have a considerable dampening effect on demand. It may be difficult to enforce but it would act as a simple deterrent.”

Iversen said steroids were becoming a “big phenomenon” in Britain: “There is no question that the number using the drug for sporting reasons is now a minority. The real growth has come in young users who want to improve their body image.”

An ACMD report to the home secretary on anabolic steroids published today quotes the latest figures from the British Crime Survey, estimating that 50,000 people in the past year have used anabolic steroids for non-medical purposes, such as bodybuilding. More than 220,000 told the BCS they had used anabolic steroids.

But drug experts say these are probably underestimates of the numbers using anabolic steroids because many people will not openly admit to using the drugs, even in an anonymous self-report survey such as the BCS. Some needle and syringe exchange programmes for problem drug users have also reported an exponential rise in steroid injectors, according to the report.

James Brokenshire, the drug minister, remarked that steroids are dangerous products that could result in serious psychiatric and physical problems.

Health Quotations for Healthy Mind and Body

Health Quotations for Healthy Mind and BodyIf you have been looking for quotations on health, this blog with quotes for healthy mind and body will surely give you endless reasons to smile and stay inspired.

I believe that the Good Lord gave us a finite number of heartbeats and I’m damned if I’m going to use up mine running up and down a street. – Neil Armstrong

Yoga is possible for anybody who really wants it.  Yoga is universal…. But don’t approach yoga with a business mind looking for worldly gain. – Sri Krishna Pattabhi Jois

Vogue and Self are putting out the message of yoginis as buff and perfect. If you start doing yoga for those reasons, fine. Most people get beyond that and see that it’s much, much more. – Patricia Walden

The autonomic nervous system is divided into the sympathetic system, which is often identified with the fight-or-flight response, and the parasympathetic, which is identified with what’s been called the relaxation response. When you do yoga – the deep breathing, the stretching, the movements that release muscle tension, the relaxed focus on being present in your body – you initiate a process that turns the fight-or-flight system off and the relaxation response on. That has a dramatic effect on the body. The heartbeat slows, respiration decreases, blood pressure decreases. The body seizes this chance to turn on the healing mechanisms. – Richard Faulds

Health is a large word. It embraces not the body only, but the mind and spirit as well;… and not today’s pain or pleasure alone, but the whole being and outlook of a man. – James H. West

Sickness is poor-spirited, and cannot serve anyone; it must husband its resources to live.  But health or fullness answers its own ends, and has to spare, runs over, and inundates the neighborhoods and creeks of other men’s necessities. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Reason why fad diets don’t work for every one

Posted by admin | Bodybuilding | Monday 9 August 2010 3:28 am

Reason why fad diets don’t work for every oneA new study has revealed that genes are to be blamed if even a small amount of cake adds pounds to you despite you being on a strict diet.

The research was published in the journal Genetics.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

This suggests that future diets should be tailored to an individual’s genes rather than to physical appearance.

“We should stop looking for a panacea and start accepting that this is a complex problem that may have a different solution for each individual,” said Laura K. Reed, Ph.D, a researcher from the Department of Genetics.

To make this discovery, the scientists studied 146 different genetic lines of fruit flies that were fed four different diets.

Results showed that diet alone made a small contribution to the total variation, while genotype and genotype interactions with diet made very large contributions.

“This research explains why the one-size-fits-all approach offered by many diet programs can have dramatically different effects for people who try them.”

It was disclosed by researchers from the North Carolina State University that genes interacting with diet are the main cause of differences in metabolic characteristics, like body weight.
