If yes, these healthy quotations for healthy people will help you in more than just a way.

The first thing you lose on a diet is your sense of humor. – Author Unknown

I recently had my annual physical examination, which I get once every seven years, and when the nurse weighed me, I was shocked to discover how much stronger the Earth’s gravitational pull has become since 1990. – Dave Barry

A diet is a plan, generally hopeless, for reducing your weight, which tests your will power but does little for your waistline. – Herbert B. Prochnow

I’ve been on a constant diet for the last two decades. I’ve lost a total of 789 pounds. By all accounts, I should be hanging from a charm bracelet. - Erma Bombeck

When I buy cookies I eat just four and throw the rest away. But first I spray them with Raid so I won’t dig them out of the garbage later. Be careful, though, because that Raid really doesn’t taste that bad. – Janette Barber

In general, mankind, since the improvement of cookery, eats twice as much as nature requires. – Benjamin Franklin

It would be far easier to lose weight permanently if replacement parts weren’t so handy in the refrigerator. – Hugh Allen

If you have formed the habit of checking on every new diet that comes along, you will find that, mercifully, they all blur together, leaving you with only one definite piece of information: french-fried potatoes are out. - Jean Kerr

Another good reducing exercise consists in placing both hands against the table edge and pushing back. - Robert Quillen

I bought a talking refrigerator that said “Oink” every time I opened the door. It made me hungry for pork chops. – Marie Mott

Before you buy any health insurance plan, it is highly imperative for you to ascertain authenticity of the plan. This is because a fake medical plan can exacerbate your financial problems.

From Foxbusiness.com:

Tips for avoiding health insurance scams

These scofflaws can be skillful and convincing; they try to reel you in by pretending to work for big, trusted insurance companies. Here’s how to protect yourself.

* Check the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud’s watchlist of health plans to avoid. Even if a company is not on the list, be wary.

* Get the Web site and phone number for any company you’re thinking of doing business with. Investigate the company.

* Get the list of providers who participate in a company’s plan and call them to ask if they’re really part of this plan; ask which of services are eligible for the discounts or coverage. Avoid any company that won’t give you a provider list.

* Read the entire policy, including the fine print, along with a trusted friend or family member. (You should be able to get your enrollment fee refunded if you cancel within 30 days.) Avoid any company that won’t give you a copy of the policy they’re selling.

* Do not respond to plans offered through faxes from strangers, e-mails, telemarketers or door-to-door salespeople.

* Call your state’s insurance department to check the license of every company and insurance agent you deal with. Investigate them also through your state’s consumer protection office and attorney general’s office.

* Get salespeople to explain all costs, including enrollment fees, monthly charges, deductibles, coverage maximums and any other expenses. Calculate exactly how a plan would affect your out-of-pocket costs so you don’t end up spending more than you save.

* Don’t buy anything you don’t understand. Avoid aggressive sales people or those who make you feel dumb.

* Beware of “guaranteed coverage,” or promises of a specified percentage of savings (”30% off!”) and of pressure to close a deal fast because “time is running out!”

* Be suspicious of large upfront costs. Compare costs among several health insurance plans. Genuine health insurance, unfortunately, is expensive, says Quiggle. If you’re offered something that sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Remember, it is better to buy a genuine health insurance at a slightly higher price than opting for a fake, cheap insurance plan.

Dr. L. Idolazzi, of the Rheumatology Unit, University of Verona, Italy, said that patients with a wide range of rheumatic diseases usually experience deficiency of vitamin D, a fact that was disclosed after making use of several clinically accepted measures of disease activity.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

A further study assessing response to vitamin D supplementation found that taking the recommended daily dose did not normalise vitamin D levels in rheumatic disease patients.

“We have seen in studies that vitamin D deficiency is common in patients with a range of rheumatic diseases, and our results have confirmed this using several clinically accepted measures of disease activity,” said Dr. L. Idolazzi, of the Rheumatology Unit, University of Verona, Italy.

“What we need to see now is a range of long term studies, which examine the clinical response of patients to vitamin D supplementation,” Idolazzi added.

Results of the three studies were presented recently at EULAR 2010, the Annual Congress of the European League against Rheumatism in Rome, Italy.

Small measures such as taking a hot milky drink, a bath, switching off the computer, listening to soothing music, and meditation can considerably improve quality of sleep besides helping us in realizing our dreams with added zeal and power.

From Timesofindia.indiatimes.com:

Experts say the surroundings could be rearranged to create an atmosphere more suited to sleep. Sleeping with the television on should be avoided as the waves disrupt sleep patterns.

To sleep well, there needs to be a fractional temperature difference between our body and our brain, a warm body and a cool head. If a person prepares for sleep well before midnight (between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.), he stands a much better chance of getting a good sleep.

Vital deep sleep occurs an hour or so after a person drops off. So one can optimise the quality of this initial stage by going to bed at a reasonable hour.

Experts also say that one should have breakfast within half-an-hour of waking. This not only stimulates body metabolism, but when one eats a healthy breakfast, the person starts to create the perfect internal chemistry for optimal sleep.

It is always good to keep a gap of 90 minutes between eating dinner and going to bed. A heavy meal late in the evening disrupts sleep pattern.

In addition to that, we can even emphasize upon exercises for half an hour so that the body can get relaxed, breathing is improved, body appearance gets better, and sleep is induced.

Most of us tend to forget that we need to work for making a life and not to merely live. The fact that most of us ignore a healthy lifestyle and are more than just preoccupied with work and sedentary habits is more than just a big concern.

What we forget is that we, human beings, are not just in the world to make a living, but to make a life. And the true essence of life will elude us till the time we understand the importance of being humans and the precious life, which needs to be enjoyed every day.

From Blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com:

If we work primarily to eke out a living, or because being idle is not a practical option, or because we want to get married, buy that car, get that EMI under control, or to live out an ego trip via our visiting cards, well, there is really no connect. We may as well stick to ‘managing’ our careers, gloat at the high points, tremble at the setbacks. Be ‘practical’, as they say. If we think that what we are as persons – our emotions, our reflexes, our strengths and weaknesses – is divorced from what we are as ‘workers’, then in any case it doesn’t matter how we live out the ‘work’ part of life.

However, since we do not acquire a new personality when we swipe the card when entering office, nor leave it behind on the way out, the basics and the traits that define us are not likely to be hugely different. The things that make for an individual of some credibility, and for a colleague of some standing, are not likely to be very different – and vice versa. Ergo, I am very honest ‘as a person’ but ‘work compulsions’ make me behave very differently where office issues are concerned, isn’t really an easy-to-sell proposition – even to oneself.

In short, we as humans should be infinitely more sensible to accept that we are not split personalities and we have a right to enjoy life, and this right cannot be compromised due to any one, including ourselves.

It was revealed by Larissa Korde, principal researcher at the Clinical Genetics Branch Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, National Cancer Institute, US, in her report that soy intake from childhood is found to be associated with minimized breast cancer risk.

From Timesofindia.indiatimes.com:

Soy protein is a high quality protein equivalent to the protein quality of egg, milk or meat. Soybean is a functional food of this millennium with complete protein package, containing essential amino acids that are required by the body.

With almost 40 percent protein, soybeans are higher in protein content than other legumes and numerous animal products.

According to the study, the isoflavone protein in soy inhibits the growth of cancer in men (prostate cancer) and women (breast cancer).

“Isoflavone in soybean acts like tamoxifen, a medicine which is used to cure breast cancer. Women with a high lifetime exposure to estrogen have greater risk of breast cancer. So, isoflavone exerts an anti-estrogen effect at some body tissues which may explain the reduced risk of breast cancer,” said Anupama Hooda, chief of medical oncology at Max Health Care Superspeciality Hospital.

Hooda says that soy should be consumed from its natural sources – plant products like tofu and miso. Soya products like soy milk, soybean chunks, sou-flour, soy papad, soy cookies and soy namkeens can also be consumed instead of taking pills having high soy proteins.

It was also concluded by the study that there is no significant association between soy food consumption and post-menopausal breast cancer.

Korde is an assistant professor in the University of Washington (UW) division of Medical Oncology. This finding by Korde was supported by medical experts in India.

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly. – Buddha

All the evidence that we have indicates that it is reasonable to assume in practically every human being, and certainly in almost every newborn baby, that there is an active will toward health, an impulse towards growth, or towards the actualization. – Abraham Maslow

We can be thankful to a friend for a few acres, or a little money; and yet for the freedom and command of the whole earth, and for the great benefits of our being, our life, health, and reason, we look upon ourselves as under no obligation. – Lucius Annaeus Seneca

The chief condition on which, life, health and vigor depend on, is action. It is by action that an organism develops its faculties, increases its energy, and attains the fulfillment of its destiny. – Colin Powell

Furthermore, we believe that health care reform, again I said at the beginning of my remarks, that we sent the three pillars that the President’s economic stabilization and job creation initiatives were education and innovation – innovation begins in the classroom – clean energy and climate, addressing the climate issues in an innovative way to keep us number one and competitive in the world with the new technology, and the third, first among equals I may say, is health care, health insurance reform. – Nancy Pelosi

The best activities for your health are pumping and humping. – Arnold Schwarzenegger

In a report on AIDS in eight sub-Saharan African countries, it was disclosed that major donors have decided to cap or reduced spending on HIV and AIDS drugs in the recent past.

From Nationalpost.com:

The Global Fund, the largest funding body in the fight against HIV/AIDS, is also facing shortfalls. The United States, the Netherlands and Ireland have said they will be cutting their contributions.

Such cuts are already having an impact in places like South Africa, Uganda, and in DRC – where the number of new patients able to start treatment with antiretroviral (ARV) AIDS drugs has been cut six-fold, according to the MSF report.

As a result, already fragile health systems would come under more pressure from a growing number of patients requiring more intensive care as their disease progresses.

“ARV treatment is lifesaving but also lifelong,” the report said. “This means that the number of patients under treatment increases cumulatively each year, thus requiring incrementally growing and sustainable funding.”

According to the United Nations, more than half of the 9.5 million people around the world who needs drugs for AIDS cannot get them.
